Description

A pestle shaped like an hourglass and carved from a single piece of wood. Each end is round with slightly flat bases and darkened. Surface is porous and centre has small carved ring.

History Of Use

Used for grinding and pounding roots, grasses, condiments etc.; would have been used with a terracotta plate.
