Description

Human figure with enlarged head and broken crest or headdress, a hunchback, bent legs and upraised arms, one of which is partially broken. Black paint seems to be confined to upper body and head. Broken areas and paint areas are highly worn. There is a spatter of yellow-green paint on left side. A transverse hole runs beneath the arms.

History Of Use

Possibly a mortuary item. The Chancay Style reflects the development on the central coast of Peru of political confederation to the north, about 1100 to 1450 C.E. This little figure resembles the large human figures effigy jars of Chancay, and also the widespread deity figures of the north coast.
