Textile Item Number: Sa279 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Rectangular textile of woven cotton; striped fabric sample with pinked edges. Stripes vary in width. Repeating stripes sets; green and yellow on either side of solid red and red and black stripes; blue on either side of white, both sets surrounded by series of black and red stripes and divided by evenly spaced orange bands. White adhesive tag has '10' written in black felt.
This sample is from a plain weave textile, woven on a commercial treadle loom. Men operate these looms in co-operative or factory enterprises. These textiles are produced mainly for skirts, shawls, and shirts. Although textile patterns were formerly distinguishable between towns, adaptation of patterns from town to town, makes establishing the origin of a modern commercial textile virtually impossible (Anderson).
