Ornament Item Number: Sf733 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
A sheet metal cone with a seam and two holes set opposite each other, 4 cm from the lower edge. Remnants of a metal strap remain in one hole. A third hole, near the apex of the cone also has a metal strap in it. The surface of the cone has the remains of gilding.
Similar cones were found at a contemporaneous site (Loma Negra) in the Vicus area. Schaffer suggests the Loma Negra cones may have been attached to the ends of sashes and headbands. The remnants of staples on this cone suggests it was attached or suspended from something metal.
Possibly Vicus Style, Early Intermediate Period; 300 B.C.E.-200 C.E.
